Designer Babies...Do you really want one?

Designer babies, no, no I'm not referring to baby Shiloh Pitt or Suri Cruise's attire.  I'm talking about picking out everything from your babies eye color to skin color.  Are you as disturbed as I am at the idea of this?  From a scientific standpoint I have to admit it peaks my interest in the slightest, but that is far outweighed by the idea that we can manipulate genes in this way.  The diversity of the world may be wiped out by this process, but even worse what would we be creating by manipulating genes.  Honestly, I'm intrigued at the possibility of curing diseases through genetic research & possibly manipulation.

At the end of the day, I for one am happy that I'm me...no matter what I look like.

Family Tree By Barbara Delinsky

Continuing with the theme of this week:

Someone handed me a copy of this book late last year.  It was so enjoyable.   The story of a white couple who has a baby that looks black.  It's not possible that all this could come from the husband's aristocratic in-laws because they have blood lines they can trace.  So, did the wife have an affair with the black neighbor? Is the father that she has yet to meet black?  How on earth can all this be possible?  Through a variety of circumstances the unsuspecting answer is revealed.

What are the chances - One in a million, twice

An English, interracial, couple was blessed with twin girls seven years ago.  You may be thinking to yourself, "what's the big deal?".  The answer, one of those girls looks more white and the other looks more black.  The chance of this occurrence is one in a million.  Fast forward seven years and this same couple has done it again.  Another one in a million set of twins, a rare occurrence in and of itself, one black and one white.  Life's miracle at it's best and it has to put a smile on your face... you have to just love nature.

Take a look for yourself:
